"Charivari" is abstract figurative animated film
about
5 minutes long based on a circus acrobats.
It is my thesis project, completed Dec. 1994, at the California
Institute of
the
Arts.
Before entering CalArts I spent the spring and summer of 1992 touring
with the Big Apple Circus
and
fell in love with it.
The idea of an inclusive nomadic arts community,
the behind the scenes
characters
and the physical artistry of the circus still excites me over a decade
later. And when
it came
time to make a thesis film I knew that it had to be about the circus.
The music was composed by Fernando Ariani.
In July of 2006 Charivari was shown at the Musuem of Modern Art as part
of a CalArts retrospective.
